How the Ruqa Alphabet Course works
Wondering how it's possible to learn such a practical hands-on online?
Using a special top view camera, Mothana explains how to write each letter with the dot system.
Each letter or group of letters is presented in its own video so you can navigate with ease.
You will be provided with a master PDF document for each letter that you can use as a guide when practising.
You can submit your questions through comments in our learning system. We will reply to you as soon as possible.
After practising, you can submit the picture/scan of your writing. so the teacher can have a look and give you some feedback.
Using the same top view camera used for recordings, we will record a video with tips on how to improve your writing.
About the Free Arabic Calligraphy Course
In this course, you will learn how to write the Arabic letters Alif and Ba in the Ruqa script. Before you begin, you will be provided with a guide on how to set up your writing materials and where to obtain them. The course features videos filmed with a document camera so that you can see the details clearly. In each video, Ustadh Mothana begins by explaining how each part of the letter is written. He then ends by showing you common mistakes and how to avoid making them.
Mothana is an artist, master calligrapher and teacher. He learnt the art of Arabic Calligraphy under Professor Abbas Al-Baghdadi at the Iraqi Calligraphers Association, since 1983. Mothana received an honorary PHD in Arabic calligraphy from Dar Assalam college in Turkey 2015. He has won many awards including the First prize of the Thuluth Script at the Fourth International Competition (Hamad Allah Al-Amasi), Istanbul, 1998 and the Burda Prize for Arabic Calligraphy in Abu Dhabi, 2009. He has also given personal exhibitions in Sharjah in 2009 and 2017 and in Luxembourg in 2017.
